Lay worship ministries
Liturgy is literally the “work of the people” in the Episcopal Church and there are many avenues of participating in worship. If you would be interested in participating in any of these ministries, please contact the office and we will get you in touch with the ministry chair.
Altar Guild - Sets the altar for worship, responsible for cleaning the silver, making sure that the linens are clean and pressed, helping to set the flowers, and that our altars are appropriately decorated for each season and Holy Day. Click her for more information.
Acolytes - Carry the lights (candles) in procession, accept the offerings, and ring the Sanctus bell during the Eucharistic Prayers.
Crucifers - Carry the cross in procession, assist the priest as they need, and lead by example for the Acolytes.
Lay Eucharistic Ministers - Help the clergy in the distribution of communion, usually assisting with distribution of the wine. Lay Eucharistic Ministers also are able to distribute home communion when home visits are requested.
Readers - Read the lectionary readings from the Hebrew Scriptures and the New Testament during the liturgy of the word. At the 10 am service they also lead the prayers of the people.
Ushers - Greet individuals as they enter the nave, distribute bulletins, provide basic hospitality and ensure folks know the safety guidelines. Ushers also gather the offertory and assist in inviting people to come forward for communion distribution.
